Six-Week Abortion Ban Could Return – Daily High Five

1. REYNOLDS' ABORTION BAN RETURN : This morning, Governor Reynolds revealed that she's filed a motion to challenge the injunction that's halting her six-week abortion ban. This is an outright abortion ban as many individuals are unaware that they're pregnant at six weeks. We can't let the freedom to choose be taken from us in Iowa.

Share our tweet to call out Governor Reynolds and share that we deserve better!

Plus, here's a look at the other news we're watching:

2. U.S. HOUSE MOVING ON IRA: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says the U.S. House is set to pass the Inflation Reduction Act tomorrow, likely with no Republican support. Once that vote takes place, the historic legislation will go to President Biden's desk to be signed into law. The bill will lower costs for working families, fight inflation, invest in combating climate change and much more.

3. TRUMP TAKES THE FIFTH: Former President Donald Trump was deposed in an investigation by the New York Attorney General's office into the Trump Organization's business practices. Trump did not answer any questions, aside from one asking name, instead invoking his Fifth Amendment right. Back in 2016, at a rally right here in Iowa, Trump had some interesting thoughts on the use of the Fifth Amendment. He said, "If you're innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?" Something to think about…

4. KEEPING FAIRGOERS SAFE: In light of several recent shootings across the country, Des Moines Police say they're working to make sure all Iowa State Fair attendees have a safe experience. While we do appreciate stepped-up security, it's hard to feel completely safe when Governor Kim Reynolds refused to take meaningful action toward gun safety. It's time she and the Republican-led legislature pass common sense gun laws to keep all of us safe.

5. MOTIVATION AFTER ROE: A new report from Navigator Research shows that Democrats and Independents say they are more motivated to vote now by the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe than they were in early July. The report also found that while many express worry that the end of Roe will lead to the erosion of other rights, vast majorities support codifying the right to same-sex marriage and contraception access.
