Two weeks after local business leaders returned from a whirlwind trade mission to China, the momentum continued with a visit from a Chinese delegation searching for investment opportunities in Anchorage.
Representatives from the Hua Hong Group contacted AEDC June 4 to arrange the trip. A few days later, they arrived in Anchorage, ready to attend a full day of meetings with some of Anchorage's top businesses. Welcomed by Gov. Bill Walker, the delegation sat down for a morning roundtable to discuss business possibilities with executives from RIM Architects and RIM Design, KPB Architects, DOWL, TDX Corporation, Stantec and Matson. They toured Copper River Seafood's Ship Creek plant, sampled Bambino's Baby Food, met with tourism industry leaders at Visit Anchorage, discussed aviation with managers at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and inspected cargo aircraft at Lynden's airport facility. The group - which represents more than half-a-dozen commercial real estate, technology and investment companies - expressed special interest in exporting Alaska seafood and developing direct commercial flights between Anchorage and Harbin.
'We certainly have many more opportunities and possibilities throughout China,' said Steven Lo, an executive director of the Huahong Group, translating for Chairman Zhang Hongshan in the packed AEDC boardroom June 9. 'We have so much to talk about, and we'd like to explore each and every opportunity.'
