O’Halleran Calls on Acosta to Resign, Criminal Justice System to Protect Victims of Sexual Crimes

WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Tom O'Halleran (AZ-01) called on Labor Secretary Acosta to resign following reports of his involvement in Jeffrey Epstein's sexual assault case.

'There is no worse crime than the sexual assault of a child. As a cop, I investigated these heinous crimes and saw many criminals rightfully locked up. A competent U.S. attorney would not and should not stop until an offender is unable to ever commit a crime like this to anyone, let alone a vulnerable minor.

'It is apparent that Secretary Acosta did not oversee an investigation that was to the level required of a crime this horrendous, and it is shameful that he reached a deal that would allow this criminal to continue preying on children and women. Mr. Acosta should resign and apologize to the women who survived this ordeal.

'This, and other reports of sexual abusers receiving lenient sentences, highlight the work that still must be done to protect the rights of survivors of abuse and believe them when they come forward with legitimate allegations.'
