Celebrate Earth Month with the City of Pickering

Pickering, ON, April 8, 2021 - The City of Pickering is hosting a variety of initiatives in celebration of Earth Month, and is encouraging the community to get involved.

This annual celebration garners strong participation and is a great opportunity to further environmental awareness and learn about the many different things one can do to live a sustainable lifestyle.

The new main program is the City's Litter and Plastics: Every Piece Counts Challenge, where residents can help take action on litter by organizing cleanups. The City and residents will work together to pick up litter and keep the community clean. Clean-up kits are available for participants.

The City's additional Earth Month initiatives include:

Webinar: How to Plan a Successful Garden (April 13 from 7 - 8:30 pm)

The Durham Master Gardeners will walk participants through planning a successful garden. This involves evaluating site conditions, maintenance, developing the gardens style, and selecting plants.

Webinar: Composting at Home (April 21 from 7 - 8:30 pm)

Participants will discover how easy it is to turn kitchen scraps and yard waste into rich, dark compost. The Durham Master Gardeners will discuss the benefits of backyard composting, how to get started, and the ingredients needed to make it work.

Take Pride in Pickering: Shrub Giveaway (April 24 from 10 am - 12 pm)

In celebration of Earth Day, registrants will receive a free 1-gallon Serviceberry Shrub (while quantities last). This giveaway is open to Pickering residents only. Registration opens April 12 at 10 am.

Webinar: Every Piece Counts (April 29 from 7 - 8:30 pm)
