Texas Republicans Abandon Babies and Families in Time of Need–All Vote Against Addressing Baby Formula Shortage

Austin, TX-All Texas Republican members of Congress last night voted against a bill to help alleviate baby formula shortages-which would provide emergency funding to address the shortage of infant formula in the United States. Every present Democratic Member from Texas voted for the bill.

This "no" vote is the latest in a long pattern of Republicans actively working against solutions. Earlier this year, 193 House Republicans, including All Texas Republicans (role call here), voted against capping the cost of insulin at $35 a month, while every Texas Democrat supported the bill. Additionally, every congressional Republican voted against the American Rescue Plan, which has saved Texans money on everything from theirhealth care premiumstorent or mortgagetochild care costs, and more.

Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement after All Texas Republicans in Congress voted against theInfant Formula Supplemental Appropriations Actlate last night:

"As Democrats are moving quickly to pass legislation that would help families and address the shortage of baby formula, Texas Republicans are all talk and no action when it comes to making sure we have the resources necessary to deal with this shortage. This vote is yet another example of how Texas Republicans aren't interested in actually taking action to address the current formula shortfall and prevent this from happening again - they're more interested in using Texas families' struggles for their own political gain and pushing their radical, extreme agenda. While Texas Republicans are pointing fingers and voting against solutions, Democrats are laser-focused on providing the resources to help Texas address the infant formula shortage, and working to lower costs on everything from gas to groceries."
