City Seeks Feedback on East Street Redesign at May 1 Public Workshop

On May 1st, at 6:30 p.m., in the Municipal Annex, located at 140 West Patrick Street - Conference Room C, The City of Frederick will be hosting a workshop to showcase, and receive feedback on the updated plans for the East Street Redesign project. Residents are encouraged to RSVP, come, talk with neighbors and staff, and help craft a real, actionable plan for East Street.

This phase of East Street Redesign is firming up designs for the road between East 4th Street and North Market Street. It is focused on making the area safer, more useful, and more attractive to the people living, working, driving, biking, and walking in this vital part of the City. New sidewalks, new bikeways, and safe freight movement are the core of this area's needs. It also encompasses all aspects of making East Street into a better road for everyone.

The East Street Redesign kicked off in 2022 with a high-level concept plan for the whole corridor, from Monocacy to Market, that assessed how well the road was working for its businesses, residents, and users. After digesting the plans and understanding the challenges of turning the concepts into buildable designs, the City split the project into northern and southern segments. The first and most pressing piece is north of East 4th Street, given the lack of sidewalks in the area. The southern segment, south of East 4th Street to Monocacy Boulevard, has been funded by the regional Transportation Planning Board for preliminary engineering. The northern segment will have preliminary plans completed by the end of this June, while the southern segment will have its preliminary plans completed by June 2025.

We invite everyone to come out to the Annex on May 1st to share their vision for the corridor and shape what could be coming soon. RSVP and sign up for updates here.

Draft concepts will be available online after the meeting so people who cannot come will still be able to give their input. For additional information contact David Edmondson at [email protected].
