Into The Jungle Fashion Showcase

Sept. 9 - 10 | 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. | South Dallas Cultural Center

The Dallas premiere of the exhibition Into the Jungle births a new legacy for Dallas Future Fashion Designers. The exhibition brings to life the world of the tropical jungle - from the bold and brassy big cats, to the beautiful blushing bird of paradise.

All forms of jungle life can be seen through the eyes of designers Taylor Sharper, J Romero, and Monsieur Alexander. Within the South Dallas Cultural Center Exhibit Hall will live the Jungle Oasis. Guests will be immersed Into the Jungle as they journey through the exhibit. With inspiration taken from every form of life, the exhibition includes 20 original haute couture garments, as well as photographs, sketches, and accessories.

We stopped by Dallas City Hall last week to install some new artwork for Mayor Eric Johnson's office! These pieces were selected from this year's Art214 collection and will be on display through August.

ART214 is part of Dallas Arts Month, a city-wide celebration of Dallas arts that was first launched in 2013. Arts Month is designed to build awareness for and appreciation of the work of Dallas artists and organizations and foster creative learning and activity throughout the city.

Augusta Savage took to art as a small child, carving small figures out of red clay in her hometown of Green Cove Springs, Florida. By 1919, Savage's skills earned her a booth at the Palm Beach County State Fair and that booth earned her a $25 prize for most original exhibit.

In 1923, Savage was awarded a prestigious scholarship to the Fontainebleau School of Fine Arts in Paris. She was one of the 100 students selected to pursue a summer fellowship in France to study sculpture.
