Crime Map and Updates

Welcome to ourmap. You can search by address, date range, case number, or specific crime type. The map includes serious felony crimes, vehicle prowls, thefts (except shoplifting), and arrests beginning in Nov. 2020. Click on icons for more detail. Addresses listed are rounded to the hundred block. For a complete list of case reports, visit olympiawa.gov/p2c.

Notable Trends

  • One arson reported over the last two weeks. Someone accessed the crawl space under a business and lit a fire while down there, likely for cooking or staying warm.
  • Six aggravated assaults reported during the two weeks with one still an open investigation. Officers referred charges to the prosecutor on some juveniles that assaulted multiple young adults. Charges were referred in another case after the suspect punched the victim, knocking them out. Officers arrested one suspect who strangled the victim and refused to let them leave the premise. In another arrest, the suspect strangled a victim at a bar after getting mad. Officers arrested the suspect in the last case after he stabbed his roommate in the knee.
  • Eight auto thefts reported with four already recovered. Officers recognized the suspect from security footage in one case where a Yamaha scooter was stolen. They located the suspect and shortly after found the scooter. Two older Hondas, a Kia and Hyundai were stolen. Hyundai and Kia thefts have dropped overall but are still being targeted as part of the Tik Tok challenge. A steering wheel lock can help prevent that theft. In one case the victim had a tracking device in the car that helped locate it.
  • Twelve commercial burglaries reported over the two weeks. Two cases are still open investigations and suspects were arrested in two cases. Power tools, cash registers and safes were targeted in multiple cases. Six cases had glass doors or windows smashed for entry. In one case, the suspects reversed a car into the glass door.
  • A rape and sex offense were both reported. A suspect was arrested in one; the victim knew the suspect. The other case is an open investigation.
  • Four robberies reported with two still open investigations. In one arrest the suspect stole the victim's bike. In the other arrest, the suspect punched a security guard and stole his phone.

Other Items

  • With the return of hot weather, remember to keep those windows closed and locked when you're not home. We see an increase in residential burglaries through open windows in the summer months. Interested in a ductless heat pump to save energy and alleviate the heat without opening those windows? Check out the City's new Energize Olympia program offering multiple benefits to get one installed.
  • In this week's photo, this morning we ran with Special Olympics' Athletes, Thurston County Sheriff's Office and Lacey Police Department for the 2023 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Washington. Good luck on your competitions athletes! You can donate to the cause and learn more here.
