Denver City Council Expands Sign-up Times to Speak in Hearings

An update to the City Council Rules of Procedure expands the sign-up time for speaking at public hearings, committee input sessions, and General Public Comment. Starting April 12, the sign-up to speak at any of these sessions scheduled for the following week will open at 10:00 a.m. on the Friday before the scheduled meeting. Before the change, registration to speak opened only for a few hours on the day of the hearing or comment session in a committee. Being in the middle of the day on a weekday made it a challenge for many people.

Here is a rundown of the new schedule:

• Council Public Hearings: Opens at 10:00 a.m. on the Friday before the hearing and closes at 3:00 p.m. the day of the hearing.
• Comment Sessions in Committees: Opens at 10:00 a.m. on the Friday before the meeting and closes 30 minutes before the meeting.
• General Public Comment: Opens at 10:00 a.m. on the Friday before the session and closes at 3:00 p.m. on the day of the session.
