Two volunteers from Idaho City were honored for their service as part of the Idaho Capital for a Day event hosted by Gov. Brad Little, Friday, April 26.

Serve Idaho, the Governor's Commission on Service and Volunteerism, recognized Michelle Audette and Lisa Hanson of Idaho City with the Idaho's Brightest Star Award for their exemplary volunteer service.

Audette and Hanson served at the Idaho City Chamber of Commerce from 2015 - 2023 as president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. The Idaho City Chamber of Commerce nominated them for the extensive work they did in support of the chamber's mission.

"Audette and Hanson exemplified service by committing to the mission of the chamber. They've boosted tourism in the area and brought in more businesses," said Bryan Wewers, spokesperson for the Idaho City Chamber of Commerce.

The pair grew the chamber's membership to over 100 people, brought funds from $300 to a working annual budget of $40,000, established a program for the Idaho City High School offering two annual scholarships, and coordinated a professional video production featuring seasonal recreation to promote tourism and member business promotion for use on social media and their website.

Idaho's Brightest Star Award recognizes outstanding volunteers from across the state. It is a partnership between Gov. Little's office, Serve Idaho and the Idaho Nonprofit Center.

In 2021, Idahoans contributed more than 38 million hours of service through organizations, with an estimated value of $990.9 million from the support of over 9,000 nonprofit organizations across the state.
