Dr Vladimir Orlic Meets with President of Uganda

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with the President of the Republic of Uganda Yoweri Museveni, who conveyed the greetings of the people of Uganda to the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

In the course of the meeting, President Museveni recalled the important moments in two countries' common history and their common struggle for freedom and independence, stressing that Serbia and Uganda should use these as the groundwork for their continued struggle for progress and an even better future for their citizens.

Dr Orlic welcomed this visit of the great friend of Serbia and the Serbian people, deeming it significant for the further improvement of bilateral relations, which mark six decades of establishment this year, as well as for the intensification of cooperation between Serbia and Uganda in all spheres of interest, which both sides are sincerely committed to.

In the course of the meeting, President Museveni reaffirmed that the Republic of Uganda stands firmly by its decision not to recognise the unilaterally declared independence of so-called "Kosovo", which Dr Orlic thanked him for. The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia took the opportunity to inform the guest about the difficult situation in Kosovo-Metohija, the dangerous moves employed by Pristina with the intention of exiling the Serbian people and endangering peace, as well as the efforts of the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic to preserve that peace and continue to lead our country down the path of stability and comprehensive progress.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia thanked Uganda for supporting Serbia's bid to host EXPO 2027, expressing satisfaction with the opening of the Ugandan business centre, "Uganda Connect Hub", in Belgrade. He also welcomed the bilateral agreements the two governments signed during the visit of the Ugandan delegation to Serbia. There was talk of cooperation between parliamentary friendship groups and possibilities to soon exchange visits, with both sides expressing the willingness to develop parliamentary connections at all other levels.

The officials also spoke about strengthening economic cooperation, as well as cooperation in the fields of agriculture, food industry, construction and information technology. "The Republic of Serbia remains truly committed to the further development of relations and cooperation with all African countries, Uganda included, to which we are bound by traditional closeness, mutual understanding and the same aspirations - to, together with our friends, protect our freedom, sovereignty and our interests," concluded Dr Orlic.
