City of Carmel hosts 6th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. commemoration

The City of Carmel celebrated its sixth annual commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Thursday evening at the Tarkington Theater. This year's event featured musical performances, narration about Dr. King's life, an interpretive dance and a brief skit.

Thank you to the Mayor's Advisory Commission on Human Relations and all who contributed, participated and attended.

Traffic alert

WEST MAIN STREET - Beginning on or after January 15, there will be an 8-week full closure of W. Main Street between Guilford Road and Old Meridian Street for installation of a new water main. During this closure, local traffic will be maintained to area businesses.

The roundabouts at Old Meridian Street and at Guilford Road will not be closed. We appreciate your patience as we work to improve the City's right-of-way. Please contact Josh Kirsh in the Engineering Department at [email protected] for additional support or questions.

News from Carmel Police Department

Congratulations, Officer Macy!

At the first Carmel City Council meeting of 2024 on Monday, January 9, Carmel Police Department's newest officer, K-9 Macy, was sworn in by Councilor Jeff Worrell.

Trash & Recycling on normal schedule

There will not be a one-day delay the week of the
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Monday, January 15.

Pick-up/Service Day will maintain its regular schedule.

Holiday lights recycling drive
through January 19

There is one more week that residents can recycle used and unwanted holiday lights by taking them to White's Ace Hardware & Garden Center at 731 S. Range Line Road. The recycling drive is sponsored by Carmel Clay Schools' Green Teams, Carmel Utilities, the City of Carmel, Technology Recyclers and White's Ace Hardware & Garden Center.

In the event of a major snow or ice storm, Republic Services Trash & Recycling service may be delayed.

Please be aware that any news broadcasts concerning trash service with Republic Services in Indianapolis or other communities may not apply to service in Carmel.

Carmel Citizens Utility Academy - Spring 2024 Registration Now Open

Carmel Utilities is proud to present the Carmel Citizens Utility Academy, providing insight to the public on the responsibilities and operations of Water, Wastewater, Trash & Recycling and Household Hazardous Waste Disposal services.

The spring 2024 seven-week sessions begin Tuesday, March 5.

Celebrate the Earth through art

Carmel Green Initiative would like to invite students in grades kindergarten through eighth to enter the 2024 Earth Day Art Contest. Art entries will be displayed at several community exhibits to inspire our community to live more sustainably.

All entries are due by no later than 5 p.m. on February 16.
