Political crisis in Guinea-Bissau

The Portuguese government rejects the President of the National People's Assembly of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau´s statements regarding Portugal's position on the current political crisis in the country.

Consistently, and respecting the full sovereignty of the country, Portugal has cooperated with all Guinean institutions and authorities - bilaterally, but also within the framework of the United Nations, the European Union and the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) - for the consolidation of stability, democracy and the rule of law, as well as the promotion of development in Guinea-Bissau.

Regarding the political crisis, Portugal has been following the latest events in Guinea-Bissau closely and hopes that the Guinean institutions will find the necessary solutions to overcome the current situation in the country, respecting the constitutional order.
