American Family Insurance Dreams Foundation donations to nonprofits will also assist affected families

Claims professionals from the American Family Insurance Group of companies are responding to customers impacted by tornados and other severe weather in Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri after the late-April storms impacted customers. The storms caused major damage to neighborhoods near Omaha, Nebraska and left dozens of homes damaged or destroyed (see photos above). Missouri and Iowa customers also experienced damage from hail and wind.

More than 1,000 claims have been filed throughout the impacted areas. Blair, Nebraska residents, Doug and Greta Schlabs, were among the American Family Insurance customers whose home was completely destroyed by a tornado. While picking up the pieces will take a long time, they're grateful to be alive and to know they can rely on their insurer.

"Got online and filed that claim only for the fact because I know if you don't jump on it, you can get farther down the list. And this was catastrophic, and I needed all the help I could get," said Greta Schlabs. "I actually have a neighbor down here that has no insurance, so I'm grateful for what I have and for the help we're getting."

Members of American Family Insurance's senior leadership team were also onsite in Nebraska to hear the Schlabs's story and talk with local agents and adjusters about how they're providing customers with support.

"It's amazing to see how the agents have all come together in the communities, the volunteering, the people coming and cleaning up, even cutting down trees," said Joni Schultz, American Family sales director in Kansas and Nebraska. "A lot of my team are volunteering in the area, which is really important."

American Family Insurance customers with claims should call the claims center (1-800-MYAMFAM) or their agent to file a claim or get updates from their claims adjuster. Claims professionals have been onsite since the storm and will continue to help customers as long as needed.

Donating thousands to local organizations helping Nebraska and Iowa residents

In addition to direct support for customers with claims, the American Family Insurance Dreams Foundation is giving $20,000 to aid disaster relief efforts in particularly heavily impacted areas of Nebraska and Iowa. A special program administered by the Dreams Foundation allows adjusters working in the catastrophe areas to nominate local nonprofit organizations they see supporting customers.

"In the moment of a disaster, nonprofits are often shoulder-to-shoulder with adjusters in the field," said Nyra Jordan, American Family associate vice president, community and social impact. "This disaster relief program was designed to elevate the work of those small, local nonprofits."

The organizations will receive the donations are United Way of the Midlandsand Bennington Community Foundation. In addition to this localized response, the Dreams Foundation has a longstanding partnership with the Red Cross and provides $40,000 annually to support any emergency response needs in American Family's geographical footprint.

American Family Insurance Group teams will continue to work with customers as they evaluate the damage and work to recover.
