Cameron University Department of Chemistry, Physics and Engineering presents awards, scholarships

The Cameron University Department of Chemistry, Physics and Engineering celebrated the achievements of its students during a recent ceremony in which students were inducted into honor societies and received recognition, and scholarships were awarded.

Inductees into Gamma Sigma Epsilon, the national chemistry honor society, were Jinyoung Beadles, Evan Capuccio, Diana Dao, Zoey Dean, Leilani Hunter, Bianca Karnes, Amanda Meza and Nathalie Moro, all of Lawton.

Kess Dew, Lawton, was honored as Outstanding Student Worker.

Landon Holley, Duncan, received the Thomas C. Brown Scholarship and the Physics Scholarship. Alyson Trumbo, Duncan, also received the Thomas C. Brown Scholarship as well as the Jimmy and Virgie Stanton Achievement Award, which recognizes academic performance by students pursuing a degree in chemistry or physics. Additional recipients of the Jimmy and Virgie Stanton Achievement Award were Beadles, Dean, Hunter, Breanna McCauley, Duncan, and Jeran Rivera, all of Lawton. McCauley also received the Chemistry Scholarship.

Moro received the Wichita Falls/Duncan Section of the American Chemical Society Senior Award, and Dao was honored with the Allen and Francis Zisman Excellence in Chemistry Award.

Recipients of the Michael Landoll Scholarship were Dean and Ophelia Brown, Cache.

Beadles and Capuccio also received tuition waivers, along with Cristopher Stringham, Lawton; Oren Kennedy, Elgin; and Charles Benke, Geronimo.

The Department also acknowledged receipt of an Honorable Mention Award from the American Chemical Society Student Chapters, which it received in March "for dedication and commitment to chemistry and the community."
