Iowa Western Community College is the host for the NJCAA Championships, which includes more than 50 NJCAA teams.

"I am so proud of everyone. This is a tough sport, and the team is putting in the effort needed for success," said Coach Grant MacKenzie.

The wrestlers who will competes:

  • Jacob Campbell (125 lbs.)
  • Kyle Wilson (141 lbs.)
  • Xavier Byrne (157 lbs.)
  • Jake Navarro (197 lbs.)

"How every wrestler wants to finish the season"

MacKenzie pointed out that Navarro was named "Freshman of the Year" by the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) earlier in the season, and Xavier Byrne is returning to the national championship meet for the second straight year.

MacKenzie founded the wrestling team at HFC in 2013. It was a club before it became a varsity sport in 2016. Since 2014, 60 Hawks have competed in national tournaments.

"Coaches from 4-year educational institutions recruit heavily from NJCAA Championships," said MacKenzie. "Our goal is to always focus on postseason performance. Competing in our division's championship is how every wrestler wants to end their season."
