Senior U.S. Navy officer visits Army family housing construction in Vicenza

VICENZA, Italy - Rear Admiral Jorge Cuadros, Commander of Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command, Atlantic visited U.S. Army Garrison Italy on Feb. 5, to see the progress on the $500 million Army Family Housing project.

During his visit, NAVFAC officers briefed Cuadros on the status of the $500 million construction of 478 Army housing units, a multiyear project overseen by Navy engineers.

The initiative is aimed at replacing outdated military family housing with modern, energy-efficient homes. The project, which is expected to be completed in 2028.

The new housing development will offer a range of residences, including apartments, townhouses, and single-family homes with 3-5 bedrooms. Caserma Ederle will have 50 apartment units, while Villaggio will feature neighborhoods with playgrounds, dog parks, and a recreation trail. A central pavilion and safe pedestrian path to school will also be included, promoting a sense of community and outdoor recreation.

Cuadros, currently serving as commander, Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command, Atlantic, had the opportunity to tour the construction site and see firsthand the work being done to bring the project to life. While in Vicenza he met with local leaders and NAVFAC staff provided updates on the project's timeline.

The Army housing project is a key priority for the U.S. Army Garrison Italy, as it aims to provide high-quality, sustainable housing that meets the needs of modern military families assigned to the Southern European Task Force, Africa and the 173rd Airborne Brigade.
