‘Red Bench’ against gender violence in the Italian Embassy in Berlin

A symbol of the fight against gender-based violence: the Italian Embassy in Berlin has installed a Red Bench, designed by architect Martin Jasper and artist Vanessa Alessi, in its premises to serve as a symbol of the void left in society when a woman falls victim to femicide.

"We wished to send out a silent but firm signal to raise awareness on the need to put an end to this horrible crime by fostering a collective commitment", said Ambassador Armando Varricchio.

The 'Red Benches' initiative embraced by the Italian Embassies was launched by Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani on 8 March as part of his Ministry's commitment to combat all forms of violence and discrimination against women, in Italy and worldwide.
