Army Corporal 1st Class Marta Bassino captured a double on 'Podkoren'. Major results for Army Sports Centre athletes also in Biathlon and Alpine Skiing National Championship
Landslide victories and major results for the Army Sports Centre (Centro Sportivo Esercito).
Saturday, on the 'Podkoren' run in Kranjska Gora (Slovenia), Army Corporal 1st Class Marta Bassino - a member of the Army Sports Centre Winter Sports Section - won the season's third Giant Slalom of the Alpine Skiing World Championship.
A great success, which added up to the victory captured yesterday, when Bassino won the second Giant Slalom in Kranjska Gora, equalling the result achieved some years ago by Deborah Compagnoni, the only Italian female skier to win a double on the same run. Thanks to her victories, the Italian Army Alpine Corporal is currently 3rd in the World Championship ranking. Other athletes from the Italian Army have triumphed on the ski slopes over the last few days. In Oberhof (Germany), the Biathlon Blue Quartet including Thomas Bormolini and Dominik Windisch, both of them Army Corporals 1st Class, took third place on the podium in the Male Relay race. In Santa Caterina Valfurva (SO), this year's location for the Italian Alpine Skiing Championship, the women's race ended with the victory of Corporal 1st Class Alba Desilvestro, followed by fellow-Corporal Giulia Murada; fourth standing for hometown athlete Giulia Compagnoni, another Army Corporal. In the male race Corporal 1st Class Davide Magnini (who sustained serious injury last fall) captured the gold medal. Bronze medal for Corporal Michele Boscacci, followed by Corporal Matteo Eydallin (fourth) and Nadir Maguet (sixth).
