City of Boise Breaks Ground on New Linear Park and Pathway Project in West Boise

April 18, 2024

A new park and pathway coming to West Boise will connect residents to a variety of city-owned park properties and open spaces. The yet-to-be-named park is under construction now and will feature pollinator plantings, a shaded transit stop and a 10-foot-wide accessible and multi-use pathway.

"It's always exciting when we can create an accessible and inviting outdoor space for people of all ages and mobilities to use and enjoy," said Mayor Lauren McLean. "We are committed to our goal of every Boisean being within a 10-minute walk to a park, and unique additions like this one in the heart of neighborhoods are vital to helping us reach that goal."

This new addition off W. Goddard Road puts more than 1,900 residents from 685 households within a 10-minute walk to the park. Today, 70 percent of Boiseans have access to park space within 10-minutes of their home. The three-acre linear property in West Boise is adjacent to the Settlers Canal and located across W. Goddard Road from Capital High School. The land for the park and pathway was donated to the City of Boise by the Settlers Irrigation District in 2022.

"This project was made possible thanks to broad community support and resident engagement," added Boise Parks and Recreation Director Doug Holloway. "While it may look different than a traditional neighborhood park, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to provide safe access in an important part of the city, while preserving the benefits of outdoor recreational access along a transportation corridor."

The new park and pathway are expected to be completed this fall (2024). The Open Space and Clean Water Advisory Committee approved approximately $2 million in levy funding to build out the park site.
