City receives additional funding for Alkimos aquatic and recreation centre

The funding, to be delivered through the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund, will help the City deliver the highly anticipated centre for its northern corridor community.

Wanneroo Mayor Linda Aitken said the project had been a high priority for the City for a number of years, and she was pleased to have received the additional funding contribution towards the much-needed facility.

"The City is committed to providing facilities that enable residents to lead healthy and active lifestyles and it is important that we are able to deliver a state-of-the-art facility to suit the needs of our growing community well into the future," she said.

"The City is grateful to have received funding commitments of $30 million from the Australian Government, including $25 million under the Priority Community Infrastructure Program and $5 million under the Female Facilities and Water Safety Stream, $12.6 million from the State Government, including $10 million under the WA Recovery Program and $147,592 through the Changing Places program, and $14.2 million through the Alkimos-Eglinton Developer Contribution Plan."

State Member for Butler John Quigley said the Cook Government was committed to providing financial assistance to sporting clubs and local governments.

"Supporting clubs and local governments to develop sports and recreational infrastructure results in increased physical activity," he said.

"Our Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) contributes to healthier, more active and socially connected communities.

"This contribution from the CSRFF will ensure that the Alkimos aquatic and recreation centre can be fully utilised from day one."

Federal Minister for Sport Anika Wells said the Federal Government was proud to support the project.

"We want more Australians to enjoy the benefits of sport and physical activity, from swimming lessons through to a fierce game of mixed netball," she said.

"That's why the Albanese Labor Government is proud to support facilities such as these which will benefit families and people of all ages across Wanneroo and surrounding areas."

Federal Member for Pearce Tracey Roberts said she was thrilled the aquatic and recreation centre was becoming a reality and that the Federal Government has made a substantial funding contribution.

"Projects like these, which will greatly enhance quality of life for Pearce residents, showcase the importance of all levels of government working together to deliver for our community," she said.
