Idaho Talking Book Service

Even when the words can't be read anymore, they can still be heard.

By Carolyn DeBerard

Presented by the Idaho Commission for Libraries, the Idaho Talking Book Service is an incredible resource for those struggling to read standard print books due to temporary or permanent visual or physical disabilities such as blindness, low-vision, or dyslexia, just to name a few. Thousands of audiobooks and magazines are available for free through this service once you register, and can be sent directly to your home!

The Talking Book Service contains literally thousands of titles, from fiction to nonfiction, Idaho Pacific Northwest History, Kids books, magazines, newspapers, and even music materials. In several of their collections, items are offered not only in audiobook format, but in braille or print-braille as well. Many of their books are available in languages other than English, in reading levels that range from very easy to adult.

Once you're registered with the Service, audio books and materials will be loaned to you free of charge and sent to your door, as well as the digital player needed to listen to your selections. Headphones and other devices needed for assistance are available upon request.

Registering for the Idaho Talking Books Service is simple. Just go to their website https://libraries.idaho.gov/tbs/, click on the Application link that best suits your needs, and you're on your way!
