Washington, DC - House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul released the following statement on reports of COVAX's decision to buy Chinese-developed Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines for global vaccine distribution.

'I am deeply concerned by COVAX's decision to buy the CCP's Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines for global distribution efforts. Not only does the data indicate this is a less effective product, but the CCP has been using its vaccines to undermine Taiwan and other countries to push its own authoritarian agenda. If the CCP wants to suddenly become a responsible actor in efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, they can start by allowing full access for an investigation into the origins of COVID-19, stop undermining public trust in U.S. vaccine manufacturers with their disinformation campaigns, and start donating money to global relief efforts. I call on the Biden Administration to publicly call this outrageous decision what it is - another brazen way that the Chinese Communist Party is leveraging this pandemic to project power and influence and fill their own financial coffers.'
