NOPD Investigating Hit & Run Fatality

The NOPD is investigating a fatal accident hat occurred early this morning (April 24, 2024) in the First District.

At about 1:57 a.m., NOPD First District officers responded to multiple calls of a body on the interstate near the Poydras Street exit.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an unknown victim in the roadway of I-10 East near the Poydras Street exit. EMS arrived and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

Through investigation, it was determined that the victim was apparently walking in the left lane of traffic and was struck by an unknown vehicle that failed to stop. The victim was subsequently struck by multiple passing vehicles.

The Orleans Parish Coroner will officially identify the victim and determine cause of death in this incident upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
