Six CCSD Seniors Named 2023 Georgia Scholars

Six Cherokee County School District high school seniors have been selected for the prestigious Georgia Scholar recognition!

The Georgia Department of Education program honors high school seniors who exhibit excellence in their school and community life. Honorees demonstrate dedication to academic success, participation in interscholastic events and leadership through extra-curricular activities.

Only 154 seniors statewide earned the honor for the Class of 2023. The Georgia Scholars from CCSD are: of Creekview High School, Kylie Buchanan, Brayden Fuentes, Riley Todd and Wade Webb; and of Etowah High School, Gracye Lamb and Marcus Youngblood.

"What an impressive honor for these exemplary seniors to add to their caps - congratulations!" Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said. "Successes like this take years of dedication and hard work by students and support from teachers, staff, coaches and families. Thank you to everyone who has supported their achievement. Best wishes and we can't wait to celebrate with you at graduation later this spring."

Each Georgia Scholar receives a seal for their diploma. Learn more about the program at https://www.gadoe.org/External-Affairs-and-Policy/Excellence-Recognition/Pages/The-Georgia-Scholar-Program.aspx

"I extend my sincerest congratulations to the 2023 Georgia Scholars," State Superintendent of Schools Richard Woods said. "These 154 Class of 2023 seniors worked hard, became leaders in their schools and communities, and took advantage of the opportunities offered in Georgia public schools. I wish them continued success as they embark on their futures, including plans for after high school and beyond. I know they'll continue to make us all proud."

The Cherokee County School Board and Dr. Hightower will recognize these students at an upcoming school board meeting.
