5/3/24 Aggravated UUW, Obstructing/Resisting

(PEORIA, IL) Thursday, May 2, 2024, at approximately 3:39 p.m. Peoria Police responded to the 2300 block of W. Starr on a Shot Spotter alert of six rounds fired.

A second Shot Spotter alert occurred minutes later, indicating one shot fired from the same location.

At approximately 4:42 p.m. officers with the assistance of a License Plate Reader (LPR) located a vehicle associated with the previous Shot Spotter at Spitznagle and Rock Island. Police also observed four subjects standing near the vehicle.

When officers approached the male subjects, they all fled on foot. During the chase officers observed one of the subjects drop a backpack. Police retrieved the backpack and located cannabis inside.

After a brief foot chase, two of the subjects identified as 18-year-old Jelani D. McNeal and 20-year-old Brandon L. Eckwood Jr. were apprehended without further incident.

During a search of the subject's flight path officers located a discarded handgun.

Eckwood was subsequently arrested for Unlawful Possession with Intent to Deliver Cannabis and Resisting Police.

McNeal was arrested for Resisting Police.

Both men were transported to the Peoria County Jail.
