National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic Meets with US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic met today with the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O'Brien.

In the conversation, Brnabic emphasised that dialogue with all the political groups in the parliament is her first priority, adding that she believed the first successful step in this endeavour has been achieved. She also underlined the improvement of Serbia's parliamentary diplomacy and work on achieving greater transparency, inclusiveness and efficiency in the work of the parliament.

She informed the guest about the status concerning the implementation of the ODIHR recommendations for the improvement of the electoral process and about enabling the holding of local elections on 2 June of this year.

The US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs said that it is a great thing that the dialogue with the opposition parties has started, that it is giving the political scene a different atmosphere, and that it is good for all future steps towards strengthening democracy in society. He commended her willingness to work on Serbian parliamentary diplomacy, saying that it is a very important thing for the country and further progress.

US Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill also attended the meeting in the Serbian parliament.
