Shearman & Sterling Expands London Financial Restructuring & Insolvency Practice

Global Law firm Shearman & Sterling today announces the appointment of Sam Brodie as a Financial Restructuring & Insolvency partner in London. Sam's arrival follows the recruitment of Alex Wood in September 2020 and four recent counsel and associates hires. It is part of the ongoing expansion of the firm's European restructuring practice.

Sam Brodie has both a deep restructuring skill set and broad finance expertise. He has experience advising on complex financing aspects of restructuring mandates as well as securitizations, structured finance, private placements and direct lending transactions. Sam acts for creditors and debtors, as well as other stakeholders across the capital structure, on complex U.K. and cross-border financial restructurings, and also advises credit and alternative investment funds on special situations financings.

'Sam has extensive technical skills and significant expertise in high value complex restructuring work, which complements our existing global offering' said David Beveridge, Senior Partner at Shearman & Sterling. 'Sam is part of the continued growth of our London Financial Restructuring & Insolvency practice following Alex's hire, to help build out our European offering. This is part of our ongoing global strategy focusing our investment in key growth areas, enhancing our position as a global elite law firm.'

'We are excited to add Sam to our growing London Financial Restructuring & Insolvency team. His extensive experience further bolsters our English law restructuring capabilities' said Joel Moss and Luckey McDowell, Co-heads of the Financial Restructuring & Insolvency team. 'We look forward to continuing to grow our offering in London and New York, helping our clients achieve their business objectives.'

Alex Wood, London restructuring partner, said 'I'm thrilled Sam is joining our team in London. His specific experience advising on a broad range of restructuring and financial transactions will augment our existing offering. With the ongoing expansion of our European restructuring practice, we are now even better placed to service our clients doing top tier, market leading international restructuring work.'

Ward McKimm, European Managing Partner, added: 'In light of current and anticipated market conditions, Sam adds valuable restructuring expertise in London, complementing our existing cross-border offering. Along with Alex Wood, Sam will play a key role in the development of our London Financial Restructuring & Insolvency practice and its long-term success.'

Sam Brodie's appointment follows Mark Shapiro rejoining the firm as a Financial Restructuring & Insolvency partner in New York. It also follows the recent addition in London of counsel Kevin Heverin and Tom McKay and associates Jamie Turley and Kate O'Donoghue.

Prior to joining Shearman & Sterling Sam Brodie was a partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.
