Dublin Community Recreation Center Lap Pool Closed for Water Treatment
UPDATE Aug. 9, 10:30 p.m.
The Aquatics team has been working diligently to balance the DCRC Lap Pool chemicals after hyperchlorination. The process of balancing after a hyperchlorination can be challenging. To ensure chemicals are stable within operating range, the Lap Pool will not open tomorrow, Aug. 10, at 5:30 a.m. All morning programs (Adult Fitness Swimming and Water Fitness Classes) held in the Lap Pool will be canceled. We will continue to provide updates here as they become available. We appreciate your patience.

The Dublin Community Recreation Center Lap Pool (5600 Post Rd.) is closed Monday, Aug. 8, for Microsporidia treatment.
The City of Dublin contracts with a third-party testing company for regular preventive water testing as a proactive safety practice to ensure the highest water quality. As a result of that testing, Microsporidia was detected in the Lap Pool at the recreation center facility. There have been no reports of water-related illness associated with our facilities.
While the routine water test did not identify which specific species of Microsporidia was present or if it is one of the 1% that can make people sick, the Lap Pool will be following the disinfection plan for Cryptosporidium (crypto) out of an abundance of caution. Crypto is a similar single-celled parasite that can also form resistant spores, so the treatment plan should eliminate any Microsporidia spores present and make the pool safe for swimming.
The pool will undergo hyperchlorination, a process that kills chlorine-resistant organisms. The pool will reopen once chemicals are rebalanced to a safe level. For information and reopening updates, visit: dublinohiousa.gov/recreation-services/aquatics.
This third-party testing is not required by Franklin County Public Health (FCPH) and is one way the City of Dublin exceeds regular safety standards. Regular water testing is also performed by City staff and FCPH. However, this does not eliminate the potential threat of water-related illness.
We remind all patrons that when heading to a pool or spray fountain:
- Do not swim when you have diarrhea and for two weeks after you recovered.
- Do not urinate or defecate in the water.
- Take a shower/bath before going in the water.
- Wash hands with soap and water after using the bathroom, changing diapers and before eating.
- Change diapers in a bathroom and not by the pool.
- Take kids on frequent bathroom breaks and check diapers often.
- Avoid swallowing any water and keep it out of your mouth.
- Only swim diapers are permitted in Dublin facilities, regular diapers are prohibited.
