Happy Healthy Holidays for children this...

Wakefield Happy Healthy Holidays programme will once again be running over the summer school holidays for all children and young people, from reception age to year 11, who are eligible for free school meals.

Over 60 venues across the district will be offering a range of activities between 31 July and 25 August thanks to Wakefield Council, partners and the continued funding by Department of Education.

A number of voluntary and community organisations, local schools, childcare providers and council services, will be running free activities and providing a meal to all children and young people who qualify.

Cllr Margaret Isherwood

Children will be able to take part in activities including dance workshops, arts and crafts, sports activities, cooking, nutritional advice and much more.

Cllr Margaret Isherwood, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "We know that the school holidays can be a really difficult time for some families, and so I'm pleased that we can offer this programme to make sure that children across our district are happy and healthy during the six-week break.

"These are great opportunities for children and young people who may otherwise miss out. They will have the opportunity to make new friends, learn new skills and build their confidence. We want all our children and young people to thrive."
