Rep. Eshoo’s Applauds Reestablishment of Net Neutrality Protections Nationwide

Washington, D.C. - Representative Anna G. Eshoo (CA-16) applauded the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) vote to reestablish net neutrality protections nationwide and issued the following statement:

"In 2018, the FCC voted to repeal net neutrality rules, eviscerating the protections of consumers that advanced competition and innovation, and helped small businesses and entrepreneurs across the country. Since then, consumers have borne the brunt of this decision as Internet Service Providers (ISPs) slowed data speeds everywhere, including the Santa Clara County firefighters when ISPs throttled them as they fought the then-largest fire in California history.

"Today's FCC vote reestablishing net neutrality protections for every American is a great victory for national security, public safety, consumer protection, and American innovation."

Rep. Eshoo has fought for a free and open internet her entire congressional career. She was one of the authors of legislation to codify net neutrality and worked with to establish net neutrality protections in California in the wake of the FCC's repeal in 2018.
