Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vahe Gevorgyan participated in OSCE Annual Security Review Conference

30 June, 2022

On June 28-29 OSCE Annual Security Review Conference was held, in which Deputy Minister of the MFA of ArmeniaVahe Gevorgyan participated and made a speech.

Touching upon the security challenges of the OSCE region, the Deputy Minister noted that the use of force or the threat of force, actual and continuous violations of the arms control regime, the use of foreign terrorist fighters and mercenaries in the armed conflicts have actually questioned the OSCE's ability to ensure comprehensive security in the region of its responsibility. It was noted that the continuous violations of the ceasefire by Azerbaijan established by the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020, the steps taken by Azerbaijan to cause a humanitarian crisis in Artsakh in March of this year, the obstruction of the work of the OSCE formats created for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict prove that to face the security challenges in the OSCE area, it is necessary to have effective cooperation among participating countries and to reaffirm the fundamental principles and commitments of the OSCE.

Expressing his support to OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship format, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the latter's activities aimed at ensuring the fulfillment of the rights of the Artsakh people, including determining their own future, as a key goal of the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The OSCE's involvement in humanitarian issues, including the release of Armenian hostages and prisoners of war, protection of cultural heritage, addressing the cases of enforced disappearances and missing persons was also highlighted.

In the framework of the conference, Deputy Minister Vahe Gevorgyan had a meeting with OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid. A wide range of issues of mutual interest was discussed.
