Charges laid in Michèle Drive shooting

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, April 11, 2024 9:43 am

(Ottawa) - The Ottawa Police Service Guns and Gangs Unit has charged an 18-year-old Ottawa resident in the December 17, 2023, shooting on Michèle Drive.

The 18-year-old was charged with:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Discharge firearm with intent
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon
  • Possess restricted or prohibited firearm without holding a licence
  • Possess restricted or prohibited firearm knowingly not holding a licence
  • Possess weapon dangerous to public peace
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possess firearm while prohibited (3x)

The name of the charged person cannot be released as he was a youth at the time of the incident, as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

He will appear in court later today.

Michèle Drive shooting investigation

(Ottawa) - The Ottawa Police Service is investigating a shooting that occurred on Sunday December 17 in the 2900 block of Michèle Drive.

At approximately 2:30 pm, police responded to the area following several 911 calls of shots fired.

On scene, a 20-year-old man was located. He was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
