Tyler Public Library February Programs

Youth Activities

Art Club | Feb. 22 at 4:30 p.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)

Geared for children in Grade 3 and up, children and teens who love art can join us for Art Club. During the February program, children will create recycled art, which they may enter into the City of Tyler Parks Department's Recycled Art Contest.

Homeschool Libratory | Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)

Homeschool Libratory is geared toward kids ages 5 to 12 years. The February class will focus on engineering solid foundations.

Dungeons and Dragons Club | Feb. 7 and 21 at 5 p.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)

Tweens and teens ages 12 through Grade 12 can learn the role-playing game D&D on the first and third Tuesdays each month from February through May. Club registration is required at www.TylerLibrary.com.

Polar Playday | Feb. 4 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)

Children ages 0 to preschool, and their parents and caregivers are invited for a playday full of winter-themed crafts, games and snacks!

Storytimes at the Library | Auditorium (First Floor)

Join library staff weekly for reading, singing, activities, and playtime at the Library's storytimes! Preschool Storytime on Feb. 16 will be a special Stuffie Sleepover Storytime. Children and parents are encouraged to wear their pajamas, and children can bring a stuffed animal or toy from home that will spend a special overnight sleepover at the Library.

  • Baby Storytime | Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. | Geared for ages 0 to 18 months.
  • Toddler Storytime | Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. | Geared for ages 18 to 36 months.
  • Preschool Storytime | Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. | Geared for ages three to six years.

Spanish Storytime | Feb. 3 and 17 at 10:30 a.m. | Playroom (First Floor)

Children and families can enjoy books in Spanish, songs, and crafts!

Take-Home Kits for Kids | Available Feb. 20 | Take-Home Kit Kiosk (First Floor)

Each month children of all ages can pick up a fun, educational craft or project to take home. Kits are available as supplies last on a first-come, first-served basis. Kits are geared for the following age ranges:

  • Early Childhood: Pipe Cleaner Finger Puppets
  • Elementary: Kindness Rocks
  • Tweens and Teens: Fidget Necklaces

Makerspace Activity | All Month | Rover Cart (First Floor)

Each month, our Rover Cart features a STEAM-oriented activity for kids to do when they visit the Library. February will feature Perler Beads activities.

STEM Club with Code Ninjas | Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)

Kids can join Code Ninja senseis to learn about magnets! Signup is required at www.TylerLibrary.com.

Adult Activities

Great Decisions | Feb. 1 and 8 at noon | Auditorium (First Floor)

From January to March, experts from around the community will visit to discuss current affairs around the world and how they affect you and your community. This program is done with the help of our Friends organization, the League of Women Voters, and the American Association of University Women. The topics are chosen by the Foreign Policy Association. Learn more about this year's topics, browse previous years and purchase a Great Decisions book to follow along on the FPA's website.

Trivia Night | Feb. 16 at 7:15 p.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)

The topic for February's trivia night is the dark side of romance, covering romances in songs, film, and crime.

Master Gardeners | Feb. 17 at 11:30 a.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)

From January to May, our friends at the Smith County Master Gardeners will be sharing lectures every third Friday at 11:30 a.m. in the Taylor Auditorium. Those interested in gardening, horticulture, and the like are invited to attend! On Feb. 17, Andie Rathbone will present "Prep Now for a Beautiful Garden Later."

Paint Night | Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)

Join us for a night of painting and fun! The focus of this paint night will be "still life" artwork.

Books and Bites Book Club | Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)

A new book club for a new year! Participants can pick any historical fiction novel to read and discuss and are encouraged to bring a dish of any sort inspired by the book or era in which the book is set. We ask that attendees bringing food bring an ingredient list and be mindful of nut allergies.

Chess Club | First Saturday Each Month at 10 a.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)

Club Read | Last Tuesday Each Month at 10:30 a.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)

February's book discussed will be Our Missing Hearts.

East Texas Genealogical Society | Second Saturday at 2 p.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)

For all who love history and genealogy, check out the East Texas Genealogical Society.

Open Door Writing Group | Wednesdays at 1 p.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)

Are you a writer? The best way to hone your craft is to work with fellow scribes, and the best place to do that is at your local library! Join our Open Door Writing Group as they share their work, discuss the writing process, and offer advice.

Quilting | Thursdays at 10 a.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)

For all those who love to quilt, join the quilting group.
