Van Nuys In-Custody Death (ICD) NRF012-23dm

Van Nuys: On March 29, 2023, around 9:10 p.m., Foothill Area patrol officers responded to a radio call on the 13100 block of Judd Street for a battery investigation. The subject of the radio call, 35 year old, Joseph Bayardo, was placed under a private person's arrest by his father, and booked at Valley Jail Section, (Booking No. 6577335).

On March 31, 2023, around 12:35 p.m., Bayardo was found unresponsive in his cell. Jail personnel and medical dispensary staff were immediately summoned to Bayardo's cell and began administering Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and other life saving measures.

The Los Angeles City Fire Department paramedics responded and asummed medical care. Bayardo did not respond to medical treatment and was pronounced deceased. Representatives from the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner responded to the scene.

Force Investigation Division investigators responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.
