Birkenhead former House of Fraser building to be demolished

Demolition of the House of the former House of Fraser building will start this week.

The demolition contractor Forshaw will begin on the site in Birkenhead town centre on Wednesday November 1.

The former House of Fraser is at 92 Grange Road in Birkenhead and the property includes a car park with 86 spaces and a rear service yard.

The location is a key element in the longstanding ambitious plans to regenerate Birkenhead including the town centre area.

Birkenhead is at the heart of Wirral's Left Bank which stretches from New Ferry through Birkenhead and Wirral Waters, Seacombe and Liscard to New Brighton.

The site of the former House of Fraser is seen as key to enabling the comprehensive regeneration of Birkenhead town centre which is a strategic priority for the council.

Initially before demolition starts there will be hoardings put in place around the building as well as the car park at the rear, which is where the site office will be located.

The car park area will also be used for storage of equipment and welfare facilities.

The work will first see the building stripped of internal fixtures and fittings before the structure itself is demolished.

The contract was procured through the Wirral Growth Company and is expected to run for a total of 16 weeks with an expected completion date of early March 2024.
