Christopher Moden Promoted to Chief Quality and Patient Safety Officer

Christopher Moden, MBA, BSN, RN, has been promoted to chief quality and patient safety officer at Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute (BGMC/GVI).

He steps into the role previously held by Barbara Kuppel, BSN, MS, RN who was promoted to vice president and chief nursing officer at BGMC/GVI in December 2022.

In this role, Moden will be responsible for the hospital's Quality and Patient Safety Program. This includes delivery of excellence in the provision of care by leading system-wide approaches that support evidenced-based best practices, culture of safety, regulatory compliance, accreditation, processes, and policies that lead to improved clinical outcomes.

Moden started his career with Kaleida Health at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital in 2005 as nurse manager of the emergency department. He was promoted to director of emergency services in 2015 and later was named interim chief nursing officer from 2017-2018. Moden moved over to BGMC/GVI in 2018 as director of critical care and nursing operations and has spent the last two years as senior director of clinical operations.

Moden received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Daemen College and a MBA from St. Bonaventure University. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Emergency Medical Department Paramedic Program, ConnectLife Organ Medical Advisory Committee and Mercy Flight Board of Directors. He was named Nurse of Distinction in 2009.
