‘The Little Mermaid’ Makes a Splash with $118.6 Million Domestic Debu…

Disney's The Little Mermaid-filmmaker Rob Marshall's live-action reimagining of the studio's Academy Award®-winning animated musical classic-topped the box office in its opening weekend. Earning $118.6 million domestically, The Little Mermaid posted the fifth highest Memorial Day weekend opening of all time. The movie also received an "A" CinemaScore and holds a Rotten Tomatoes verified moviegoer rating of 95 percent. Internationally, The Little Mermaid earned an additional $79 million in its debut weekend.

The Little Mermaid stars Halle Bailey as Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian, Awkwafina as the voice of Scuttle, Jacob Tremblay as the voice of Flounder, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, and Art Malik as Sir Grimsby, with Javier Bardem as King Triton and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. The Little Mermaid is directed by Rob Marshall and produced by Marc Platt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, John DeLuca, and Marshall, with Jeffrey Silver serving as an executive producer. The film features music from Disney Legend Alan Menken and lyrics by Disney Legend Howard Ashman, who together won two Oscars® for the music in The Little Mermaid (1989), and new lyrics by Miranda. The score is by Menken, with music supervised and produced by Mike Higham.

Meanwhile, in its fourth week of release, Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 continues to perform at the box office. To date, the film has earned $305.9 million domestically and $437.5 million internationally for a combined total of $743.4 million.
