Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard was in Jalisco today to witness the signing of an agreement between the Foreign Ministry and the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) aimed at boosting international sales of tequila.
Under the agreement, the Foreign Ministry's network of embassies and consulates will help open new markets for Mexico's emblematic spirit.
At the signing ceremony, held at the Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce, the Foreign Secretary said that the consumption of tequila was growing the most in Eurasia, and that this year Mexico would be opening an embassy in Kazakhstan and other places that "will give us a presence in the region, and we already have regulatory authorization for tequila to be exported to that region of the world," he said.
The signing was attended by CRT President Miguel Ángel Domínguez Morales and CRT Director Ramón González Figueroa.
While in Jalisco, the Foreign Secretary met with the rector of the University of Guadalajara, Ricardo Villanueva, and the university community to discuss Mexico's foreign policy.
In addition, he presented his book "El Camino de México" (Mexico's Path) to the Mexican Federation of Economists (FCERM) and the general public.
