Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine to resume discussions on ‘Compliance with the Nitrates Directive: Implications for Ireland’

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 20 March, to resume discussions on 'Compliance with the Nitrates Directive: Implications for Ireland'.

The meeting at 5.30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will hear from officials from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and representatives from Uisce Éireann, Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) and the Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO).

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Jackie Cahill said: "This meeting will complete the Committee's hearings on this section of our examination of the implications for Ireland of compliance with the Nitrates Directive.

"In our four previous engagements, Members have heard from representatives of the farming organisations and environmental groups, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and Teagasc.

"Before reporting on this important matter, the Committee will wait to hear from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) once it publishes it latest Water Quality Report due in June 2024."

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
