Larson Opens Application Period for Community Project Funding, Slams GOP Nonprofit Ban

East Hartford, CT - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced his office is accepting Fiscal Year 2025 Community Project Funding applications and slammed the Republican majority's newly-announced 'nonprofit ban' aimed at restricting funding for LGBTQ+ organizations.

"Over the last three years, I am proud to have worked with community leaders and organizations across the First District to secure more than $60 million for local initiatives through the Community Project Funding process," said Larson. "My office is now accepting applications for Fiscal Year 2025, and I urge all interested parties to apply. It is shameful that the Republican majority has brought culture wars into this year's process, barring nonprofits from receiving Economic Development funds in an effort to restrict funding for LGBTQ+ organizations. This discriminatory ban will have far-reaching effects, preventing Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCAs, and other local nonprofits from even participating in the process. I will continue to support projects that invest directly in our shared priorities and am committed to working in a bipartisan way to fund initiatives supporting all members of our communities. I commend Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro for her efforts to ensure a fair and equitable process and stand with all of my Democratic colleagues as we work to reverse these unfair restrictions that will hurt seniors, children, and veterans."

Larson secured nearly $14 million in this year's government funding package for projects to build affordable housing, revitalize local infrastructure, provide new resources for veterans, and support victims of gun violence.
