Media Alert: SARU Briefs Sports Committee on SAIDS Amendment Bill Regarding Compliance With Doping Legislation

Parliament, Wednesday, 22 February 2024 - The Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture will this afternoon receive a submission from the South African Rugby Union (SARU) regarding SARU's input into the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) Amendment Bill that is under consideration.

The processing of the Bill follows WADA's notice to South Africa in September, that it contemplated suspending the country due to non-compliance with doping legislation which it was signatory to. That nearly affected the successful Rugby World Cup campaign by the Springboks in France.
