Council investment in leisure centres continues with redecoration works planned for Lime Kiln Leisure Centre

Wiltshire Council's has confirmed plans to refresh Lime Kiln Leisure Centre in Royal Wootton Bassett, with work starting this month.

Over the coming months, decoration works will take place in the main entrance corridor, downstairs studio and pool hall areas, with a complete refurbishment of the swimming pool changing rooms, scheduled for completion by July 2024.

The work is being carried out in two phases.

In Phase 1:

• A refresh to the outside porch
• Refreshed flooring in the front entrance, entrance corridor and downstairs studio

In Phase 2:

• Pool changing rooms refurbishments

• Refreshed poolside flooring and pool hall redecoration

With the phase 1 works now underway, the normal main entrance will be closed and a temporary entrance will be in use. This is signposted to customers on arrival at the centre. The ground floor studio and squash courts will also be taken out of action for this first phase of the works which should be complete by early May.

Phase two of the work will involve a full changing room refurbishment where customers will be asked to arrive at the centre ready to swim and shower once they return home, similar to arrangements during the pandemic. This will be followed in the final phase by a two-week swimming pool closure to allow for pool hall decoration and new flooring to be laid. This is scheduled to take place in June and be complete in July, with more specific information and timescales confirmed in due course.

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: "We have listened to local residents' feedback about the facilities at Lime Kiln Leisure Centre in Royal Wootton Basset and we are carrying out this programme of works to improve the overall experience of using the centre and give it a refresh.

"We want to motivate people in Wiltshire to keep physically, socially and mentally active. In order to encourage more participation we need to give people the opportunity to access to facilities that are well maintained and that's why we are keen to invest at leisure centres across the county.

"Whilst these works may cause some initial disruption to users, we hope that the finished result will be a much nicer environment for our members and visitors."

Wiltshire Council recently confirmed plans to carry out improvement works to Devizes Leisure Centre, Marlborough Leisure Centre and Warminster Sports Centre. Progress is also being made on developing a new leisure centre for Trowbridge. There are also plans to make changes at more of the county's leisure centres, and more information will be shared on that in due course.
