Cook County Sheriff's Office hosts free vehicle light repair in the Southland

The Cook County Sheriff's Office will host a free light repair program over the next several months.

Anyone who lives in Cook County can bring their car by, and technicians would fix broken taillights, headlights, or license plate lights at no cost.

Patrick Flannery, assistant executive director of community engagement at the sheriff's office, said the event this weekend in south suburban Phoenix is full but encouraged people to register, so they'll know about the next event.

"The idea is, rather than people getting double-taxed with having to repair their lightbulbs, as well as potentially pay a ticket, we just come out, and we service the bulbs themselves and replace them, and save folks a lot of money, and increase public safety at the same time," Flannery said.

Last fall, Cook County hosted the light repair event in Markham, and Fifth District Commissioner Monica Gordon told reporters that this event provides an excellent opportunity for people to take advantage of.

"This is to help with, as you know, people get ticketed for their car lights, so we want everyone - this is part of the many equity initiatives in Cook County to make sure everyone has the opportunity to get this fixed," Gordon said.

Registration is required for these light replacement events, and sign-up is available through the Sheriff's webpage.
