Learn about accessory dwelling units from professionals at this upcoming resource fair

The city of Sacramento saw accessory dwelling unit (ADU) permits increase from 57 in 2019 to 246 in 2023. In an effort to support further development, the City is co-hosting an ADU fair for residents to meet ADU professionals and learn about what's possible on properties.

The free fair is open to the public 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Grant Union High School (1400 Grand Ave).

"This will be a one-stop shop to learn about all of the resources the City provides related to ADUs and will also be a great opportunity to meet professionals who can assist from their experience," said Nguyen Nguyen, associate planner with the City.

Those interested in attending can register for the event online here.

Co-hosted by Greater Sacramento Urban League, Casita Coalition and Team Meredith from CrossCountry Mortgage, this fair will feature exhibits by ADU builders, lenders, designers and more.

Any resident who is considering building an ADU on their property will benefit from this event.

Numbers have soared for ADU's in the last few years, especially in 2023 according to a recent annual update on Sacramento's progress to reaching housing goals.

The City continues to develop several strategies to incentivize more housing options including waiving fees for affordable housing construction, increasing ADU production, and allowing for a greater array of housing types throughout the city. These strategies are supported through the recently adopted 2040 General Plan.
