Lewisville Fire Department Engine Push-In Ceremony

The Lewisville Fire Department welcomes all residents to attend an Engine Push-In Ceremony on Tuesday, April 2, 11 a.m., at Fire Station #2, 702 E. Main Street, in Old Town Lewisville.

Fire personnel and attendees will push in the new Engine 2. It will replace the current Engine 2, and the Dive Rescue Team van. This new Pierce engine is built to handle fire duties and carry the dive team equipment, which should lead to decreased response times for the dive team.

A push-in ceremony is a tradition amongst fire departments when taking delivery of a new apparatus, that honors early firefighting crews. Back in the 1800s, fire crews used horse-drawn equipment. When they returned to station, the horses were unable to back the equipment into the bays, so the crews would detach the horses and physically push the equipment into the station. With the creation of motorized equipment, the need to physically move the equipment was gone, but the legacy of the push-in remained.
