The Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) graduation ceremony took place on Saturday, 14 October. The Nizzola Foundation Awards for the most innovative theses and the Argor-Heraeus Award for the best thesis on environmental sustainability were also conferred.

The graduation ceremony represents a special moment in the life of the Department, an opportunity to celebrate the students who have reached an important milestone at the end of their studies.

During the ceremony on Saturday, 14 October 2023, attended by the SUPSI Director General, Prof. Franco Gervasoni, the Director of the Department of Innovative Technologies, Prof. Milena Properzi, and the Head of the Master's programme, Prof. Donatella Corti, 61 Master of Science in Engineering diplomas were awarded to:

Many students also had the opportunity to express their gratitude to the BPO, Chaudoire, PREMIOSWISSENGINEERINGTICINO, and RETECA Foundations for the fundamental support they provided in their studies after receiving their Bachelor's degrees.

The best thesis

During the ceremony, some prizes were also awarded for the best theses in the fields of innovation and environmental sustainability by the Nizzola Foundation and Argor-Heraeus.

The purpose of the Nizzola Foundation is to encourage student excellence in Ticino in the field of technical Masters at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) and at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETHZ) with scholarships and prizes for the best students and thus increase the excellence of future industrial executives from Ticino and Switzerland.

The awards, presented by SUPSI General Director Franco Gervasoni, together with Luca Nizzola and Anna Nizzola, vice-president and member of the foundation respectively, and Fabienne Bonzanigo, the foundation's treasurer, were given to:

  • 1st prize: Daniele Duzzi - Thesis: Strategy for the Sustainable Management of Bridges: Territorial Considerations on Integrating Environmental and Socio-Economic Impacts into Decision-Making Processes
  • 2nd priza: Lorenzo Bazzolo - Thesis: Test bench for in vitro preclinical testing and evaluation of endovascular prosthesis
  • 3rd prizd: Andrea Marino - Thesis: Reduced gravity experiment on particle entrainment by flowing water

Finally, Dr. Robin Kolvenbach, co-CEO of Argor-Heraeus, which has been supporting the students of the Department of Innovative Technologies for more than ten years through a prize dedicated to the best thesis on the topic of environmental sustainability, awarded the ex-aequo prize to

  • Claudio Capuzzimati - Thesis: Sustainability journey in Montanstahl AG: laying the foundations for responsible sustainable development
  • Giulia Elena Delamotte - Thesis: MIBOC - Microbially Induced Boosted Calcium Carbonate Precipitation
