Observers From 22 Countries Will Work as Part of IPA CIS Monitoring Group at Russian Presidential Elections

A seminar for the IPA CISinternational observers at the elections of the President of the Russian Federation was held in the Tavricheskiy palace. Participantsofthemeeting were acquainted with the standards of democratic elections and principals of international monitoring the elections in the CIS.

Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat - IPA CIS IIMDD Director Ivan Mushket spoke about the members of the monitoring group at the elections of the President of the Russian Federation. It included representativesoftheparliamentsofallIPACIScountries,as well as experts from Moldova, Turkmenistan, Laos, Egypt, Vietnam, China, Iran, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Palestine, Syria, Sudan, Turkey, Croatia and the United Kingdom.

The representatives will monitor elections in different regions of the Russian Federation, as well as at foreign sites in Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Moldova, Vietnam and Laos.

HeadoftheIPA CIS IIMDD expert group on long-term election monitoring, Professor of the Department of European Studies of the Faculty of International Relations of St. Petersburg State University Stanislav Tkachenko introduced the seminar participants to the preliminary results of the observers' work.

Expertof the IPA CIS IIMDD Alexander Potyakin informed the observers about the study of the Russian Federation legislation regulating the conduct of the elections for its compliance with international standards of democratic elections.

The monitoring group is observing the presidential elections in Russia at the invitation of Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin.
