New law could expand 5G's reach in PA

Last week, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf signed two new laws regulating communications infrastructure, making the upcoming deployment of 5G a more streamlined process for the state. The law now gives governments 60 days to approve or deny a permit to add a 5G cell to an existing pole, 90 days to approve or deny a permit for a new pole, and if no action is taken within the timeframe, the permit is automatically approved. Tom Musgrove, a lobbyist for Crown Castle stated, 'When we look at where Pennsylvania was a week ago, and where Pennsylvania is now, a week ago … [for] Crown Castle or other carriers, it would be challenging to consistently deploy in Pennsylvania.'
