Clifford Chance advises on new strategic partnership for global fund administrator Alter Domus

Global law firm Clifford Chance is advising the existing Alter Domus shareholders, including the Founders and Permira, on their new strategic partnership with Cinven.

Alter Domus, a global provider of tech-enabled fund administration, private debt, and corporate services, backed by private equity house Permira, has secured new strategic investment from international private equity firm Cinven as the business looks towards its next chapter of strategic growth.

The cross-border transaction team was led by Private Equity M&A partner, Neil Barlow, with support from Private Equity M&A partner, Spencer Baylin, senior associates, Lianne Mizrachi and Josh Reynolds, and associates, Eleanor Burkin, Cristina Rice, Adam Clifton and Erin Hanson.

Alter Domus is one of the largest fund administrators globally, with over US$ 2.5 trillion assets under administration (AuA). Alter Domus is solely dedicated to alternative assets, offering end-to-end tech-enabled fund administration and corporate services across private equity, real assets and private debt. Since Permira's investment in 2017, the firm has grown rapidly, building a global network that now spans 23 jurisdictions, servicing 90 percent of the top 30 asset managers globally. Cinven will support the long-term strategic growth of Alter Domus, working in close partnership with the Founders of Alter Domus and Permira, who will continue to be significant shareholders.

The transaction showcases Clifford Chance's longstanding relationship with each of Alter Domus, the Founders and Permira, notably advising on the strategic partnership between Alter Domus and Permira in 2017, and on helping to deliver Alter Domus' cross-border M&A strategy, including on its expansion across the United States through its acquisitions of Cortland Capital Market Services, a Chicago-headquartered investment servicing company, IPS Fund Services, a Boston-based private equity and venture capital fund administrator, Strata Fund Solutions, a Salt Lake City based leading fund administrator serving US private equity and venture capital funds, Investors Economic Assurance, a New York based global leading provider of technology solutions and services to alternative investment managers and Solvas, a Californian originated loan and debt servicing software platform.
